I’ve become a little addicted to these. I love citrus everything, especially this time of year. Last weekend for Easter, Lydia and I made our annual Lemon Rolls. Imagine a homemade cinnamon roll minus the cinnamon and add in lots of fresh lemon. Delicious!

When I {finally} started having contractions during my pregnancy with Lyd and we headed to the hospital {two days after my due date} Matt was wearing a green Polo shirt. The whole day all I could have was ice chips, and every time I looked at him all I saw was a big can of Sprite. Something about delivery made me crave the lemon-lime flavor. Fast forward many hours and an emergency c-section. While I was waiting in recovery and Lydia was in the NICU, the nurse came and asked me if I needed anything. I told her, “I need my baby and a Sprite.” She couldn’t bring me my baby yet because she was being checked out by the neonatologist, but she did bring me a Sprite. She told me to take small sips slowly. But when she handed me the little styrofoam cup with the bendy straw, I sucked down half the cup in one gulp. She gave me the evil eye, and I felt like a rebel. Every time I see a Sprite, I think of the day my baby girl entered the world, a hot and muggy Memorial Day Monday.

With the warmer temps, we’ve been taking lots of walks around the lake nearby. Lydia likes to pretend she’s racing where she tells us what color Gatorade she’s drinking (usually light pink and dark pink) and what color medals she’s won (usually light purple and dark purple.) I like to pretend I don’t see the snake in the water just a few feet away. But I do suddenly get a burst of energy and pick up the pace.

I’ve been wearing flip-flops and my new favorite gold sandals, and my toes are so, so happy. I’ve also been wearing my new Love Works shirt that is what Matt calls Day-Glo pink. Shout out to my girl Mel for getting me the last one in my size. I sent her a desperate text while I sat in service saying I needed that pink shirt. It’s just a happy color, and I love happy colors. And Love Works.

I’ve been reading a little less than usual recently, and I’m inclined to blame West Wing. We found West Wing on Netflix a couple months ago, and now we’re on season 4 so you can see why I haven’t had as much time to read. I did read Carry On, Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton a couple weeks ago. I love her writing style–gritty and honest. We have different views on some things, but her story of redemption is amazing and her truth-telling courage is infectious. Last week I reread Loving the Little Years which is always a great perspective shift for mommas with littles. She offers practical ideas to help moms relieve the stress and enjoy the craziness. I am also rereading Cold Tangerines which I do every year about this time. Cold Tangerines is the book that made me want to be a writer. It still feels weird to call myself a writer, but May 3rd marks one year of writing here on this blog and that feels like a big accomplishment to me, but we’ll talk more about that next week. Now, I’m looking for some fun, summer reads, so if you have any recommendations let me know.

Here’s to warmer days and the promise of summer right around the corner! (But maybe not so much pollen!)
