My 29th birthday was so much fun. Sweet messages from friends and family, breakfast at Chick-fil-A with my girls, a new book from Jess (Italics blog review on that coming soon), lunch with the staff girls, fresh flowers delivered from my daddy with a note that read, “Happy birthday to a beautiful daughter,” a birthday date with my favorite and a Muddy’s cupcake, complete with a tall, skinny candle of course.
Ant then there was the surprise my favorite had for me after our birthday date. He handed me a card that said to pack my bags because I was leaving the next morning for a trip! He wouldn’t tell me where or with whom (although I had already eeked out of him that my bestie Liz was somehow involved ;).) And then Friday morning, three of my favorite girls were standing outside my front door with a huge sign that read, “Nashville Bound!”
Several months ago, these three girls and I realized we were always the same ones responding to Girls Night Out invitations, and we all wanted to explore our city more, so we decided to do a monthly Girls Night Out exploring something new in the 901. One time we had grease and Grease, dinner at Gus’s and the Grease movie singalong at the Orpheum. Another night we tried a new Midtown restaurant and saw Les Mis at Playhouse on the Square. And another night we ate our weight in chips and queso at Cafe Ole while the lights flickered on and off because of the storm outside. I think it’s rained every time we’ve gone out so far. These girls spur my adventurous side, and we all love to eat. So, it was perfectly fitting that when Matt planned a girls trip to Nashville for me he decided to conspire with these three.
We laughed and ate and shopped and ate and laughed and shopped and ate… you get the idea. We tried on boots and made Liz play the three chords she’s learned on a guitar that cost more than my car. We all got our eyebrows threaded which meant we all had matching red splotchy eyebrows for a couple hours, and I bought red lipstick (inspired by T Swift being in town while we were there). We ate the yummiest chocolate croissants and tried to take pictures of ourselves. And Friday night after getting caught in a rain storm after a late dinner, we went back to the hotel, put on our pajamas, watched Friends and ate the remnants of our cheesecake from lunch.
My birthday was a true reminder that the very best gift is love. And then yesterday, I got a tweet from @muddysbakeshop letting me know the IG pic of my birthday cupcake had scored me a Muddy’s gift card. Icing on the cake. Literally.
