Passed Down Pillows

When we were at my parent’s home a couple weekends ago, Mom gave me an old stiched piece of fabric that my great-great aunt had done. It was quite dirty with tattered edges, but still so beautiful. I brought it home and soaked it in a vinegar bath {a couple capfuls of vinegar in a gallon of water} for several hours. Then I wrung the water out and hung it out in the sunshine to dry for a couple days {bringing it in at night, of course}. That removed a lot of the stains on the fabric. The fabric still has that aged color to it, but I love that. I cut the tattered edges off and cut a matching piece of muslin and made it into a gorgeous pillow. I absolutely adore handmade things, and this one simply makes me smile. I hope one day L will have it in her home and tell her kids the story behind it.
