Italics- Summer Part 2

Italics- Summer Part 2

I have a new author who has quickly joined my favorites list- Lisa See. I stumbled upon her bestseller Snow Flower and the Secret Fan at the library a few weeks ago and could. not. put. it. down. Set in 19th century China, it is the story of two laotongs who have been paired to be best friends for life. Lisa See embroiders history into the tapestry of a very personal story. Her writing is so vivid and poetic that I can imagine the world she creates better than any picture or movie could portray. If you enjoyed reading The Help (and who didn’t?!?), I think you will fall in love with this author.
After I finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, we headed back to the library to load up for our Jamaica trip. I darted over to the “S” section crossing my fingers that See would have more books available. I was so excited to see Peony in Love and Shanghai Girls. I read both of them under the palm trees with a salt-kissed breeze keeping me cool and an ice-cold strawberry lemonade in hand. It. was. paradise.
And now I am headed back to the library because I just put a fourth of See’s books on hold! I’m headed to the country for the night with a couple of girlfriends. Happy weekend!
