Cut the Cord

Well, we did it. After a year of talking about, going back and forth, pros and cons, yada yada yada… we finally did it. We got rid of cable. Yep, to the tune of $70 bucks a month. No, we’re not “anti-tv” or anything like that. But our nightly schedule consists of going on a long walk/run to get some exercise and let the dogs stretch their legs, then we all hang out in the kitchen while I cook dinner, then, of course, we eat dinner and by then it’s already around 7:30 and it’s time to get L her bath and lay her down to go to sleep.

Then, as you probably already know, I take my nightly bath where I usually get lost in whatever book I’m devouring or if it’s a really good day the latest issue of Coastal Living or Martha Stewart Living that just came in my mailbox 🙂 By the time I get done with that, there’s not a whole lot of time left before we head to bed {the Robertssss, we like our sleep… all 8-9–ok sometimes 10, but don’t judge–hours of it}.

So, you see… we simply weren’t using it. And the couple of shows we do like (House, Modern Family) are on network so we can still see them or we can just watch them on Hulu. Now, I will say that I miss House Hunters International but I can watch it online or catch up when I go to my mother-in-law’s house (she’s a HHI junkie too :). Plus, it’s another $70 a month that can go to something else, and God’s already given us an awesome way to use that money for ministry.

So, in case, you’re on the fence and wondering if you should do it, we haven’t regretted it one bit! Now, when football season comes along… we may be feeling the pinch a bit since a lot of the Bama games are on ESPN. I think we’ll be able to watch most of them online, but for the other ones which awesome friends would like to let us come crash with them for say 4-5 hours at a time… with a one-year-old?!? I’ll bring snacks! 😉

Goodbye Comcast!

p.s. Are we the only ones without cable? One of my staff girl friends has been “cable-less” for a while and another doesn’t even have a home tv. Anyone else out there ditch the cable?

  1. We haven't had cable (or satellite) since we moved to TX. We are almost at our year mark. We haven't missed it one bit. We have off-air channels, hulu and netflix. We are completely fine. If there is one thing that we do not need more of – it is TV!

  2. we have never had it since we've been married and i recommend it to everyone! you'll be surprised how much nicer the house feels without the TV on. i mean, we still watch the new and the office and parenthood, but that's it. and with hulu, we usually just watch it on the computer over the weekend. it's awesome. i'm so proud of you guys!!! you'll be so happy you did it!

  3. Good for you guys….we said we weren't going to get cable when we moved to Jackson, but we had it hooked up within a week. 🙂 We really don't watch it much either, but I guess it's just something we can't quite let go of yet. Keep me posted on how it goes!
