Someone told me something that made me smile from ear to ear the other night. I think it will make you smile too, L, so I just had to share it with you. One of Momma’s friends was talking to your daddy at church on Sunday and asking him about you. She told me that your daddy was absolutely giddy. Giddy… that’s a perfect word to describe your daddy’s excitement.
Little L, I can’t wait until your daddy gets to hold you in his arms. He loves to put his hand on my tummy and feel you dance and roll and kick like a soccer player. We’re so blessed to have him in our lives, and I thought you might like to know a little bit more about him.
Your daddy and I met when we were in high school. We went to different high schools, but we went to the same church youth group. We “dated” (meaning we sat next to each other in the church pew) for exactly fourteen days in ninth grade. I then decided it was over and broke up with him over AOL Instant Messaging which had just come out. (I realize that you don’t even know what that is because it’s not even used anymore, but it was a way to talk to people over the internet.) After that, I avoided him at church. People were always trying to match up the guys and girls in youth group, but anytime anyone mentioned your daddy to me I said, “Made that mistake once. I’ll never do that again.” Hmm… just a heads up, sweet L… never say never 🙂 Turned out to be the best mistake I ever made.
Your daddy and I started dating October 5, 2001. We had just begun our senior year of high school, and I remember the night he asked me to be his girlfriend. We were watching an Ole Miss football game at his house, and I had accidentally fallen asleep with my head against his shoulder. (Your daddy and I weren’t Bama fans yet… hard to imagine, I know!). He woke me up with a little panic in his voice and said, “Liss, I have to ask you something and it can’t wait. Will you be my girlfriend?” Of course, I said yes, and it wasn’t long before we were best friends and knew we would spend the rest of our lives together.
Fast forward nine years later… your daddy and I have been through a lot together… living in different states, losing grandparents, moving five times, saying goodbye to babies and of course the best moments have been celebrating you. Your daddy has held my hand through all of it. We’ve cried together, celebrated together and laughed a LOT together. Your daddy loves to laugh.
L, I can’t wait until your birthday when I’m holding his hand as they show you to us for the first time and tell us whether you’re a boy or a girl! And, of course, I can’t wait until I get to see your daddy hold you for the first time. You’ll have him wrapped around your finger in a split second. Actually, you already do.
Your daddy loves you more than you’ll ever know. We’re so blessed, L, to have him in our lives.
